Jan Vogler: new Tchaikovsky-CD by Sony (February 2016)

On 4 March 2016 Jan Vogler’s new CD with works by Tchaikovsky will be released by Sony. Together with Frankfurt Radio Symphony conducted by their Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Moritzburg Festival Ensemble the CD was recorded in Frankfurt in autumn 2015.

With his Stradivari cello Jan Vogler explores new sound territory for cello – this time in the elegant and poetic style of the famous Rokoko Variations for cello and Orchestra. For the present recording Jan Vogler has chosen his own version of the work, a version that combines the original with that of the cellist Wilhelm Fitzenhagen.
Both works, Rokoko Variations and Souvenir de Florence, inspired by architecture, were completed by the pieces Serenade melancholique and Meditation, originally composed for violin (recorded here for cello and Orchestra for the first time). Those big “sound poems” communicate well with the slower Rokoko Variations.
