Omer Meir Wellber conducts Bernstein at Gewandhausorchestra – live broadcast on MDR Kultur (September 2018)

Conductor Omer Meir Wellber will again be guest at Gewandhausorchestra Leipzig and will, among others, conduct Leonard Bernstein’s Facsimile, a choreographed and seldomly performed work for orchestra, together with ballet dancers from the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig.

60. Birthday of Manfred Honeck (September 2018)

On 17 September, Manfred Honeck will celebrate his 60. Birthday. In honour of this anniversary, the PSO has commissioned a new work by American composer Mason Bates, Resurrexit, which will have its world premiere on 28 September in Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh. Mason Bates is Composer of the Year 2018 at Musical America.

Jan Vogler announces Dresden Music Festival 2019 (September 2018)

Today, 12 September, Artistic Director Jan Vogler announced the festival program of the Dresden Music Festival 2019, following the motto “Visions”. From 16 May until 10 June 2019, the festival will also refer to the Bauhaus centennial. Within the 56 events at 22 venues Jan Vogler wants to break genre boundaries and revive traditions in the sense of the Bauhaus philosophy, together with artists and fellow musicians from all over the world.

Omer Meir Wellber’s debut at the Lucerne Festival (September 2018)

On Saturday, 15 September, Omer Meir Wellber will give his debut at the Lucerne Festival – together with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra he will give concerts in Lucerne, as well as at the Dortmund Concert House and Birmingham.

Kent Nagano and the OSM go on Nunavik Tour (September 2018)

From 9 – 19 September Kent Nagano and musicians of the OSM will go on tour to the very north of Quebec and will trace a path from the arctic down through Quebec’s interior toward the Côte-Nord. The chamber opera Chaakapesh of the young Canadian composer Matthew Ricketts was commissioned especially  for  this upcoming  tour. 10 years after their first visit, Kent Nagano and the OSM will visit Inuit, Cree and Innu villages and will perform Chaakapesh, composed for five languages (Cree, Inuktitut, Innu, French and English). Cree playwright Tomson Highway provided the idea and wrote the libretto. It is based on a Cree legend, similar to the biblical Noah story. Midori Joins the Curtis Institute of Music Violin Faculty with the Beginning of this school year (September 2018)

With the beginning of the fall semester on 4 September 2018, Midori will officially join the Violin Faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She joins a storied violin lineage and robust community engagement program at Curtis.

During the 2017–18 academic year, Midori already visited Curtis a number of times to give masterclasses, attend student-centered activities, and work with students participating in the school’s community engagement programs and Artist-Citizen courses.

Midori comes to Curtis after 14 years on the faculty of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she was a distinguished professor, a department chair for eight years, and holder of the esteemed Jascha Heifetz Chair in Violin. She will assume a role as a visiting artist at USC beginning with this semester.

29 Aug – 2 Sept: Kent Nagano & the OSM present Virée Classique 2018 (August 2018)

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and its Music Director Kent Nagano present this year’s Virée Classique in Montréal from 29 August until 2 September.

The festival will offer concerts with soloists like violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaïa or pianists Paul Lewis and Alexei Volodi.
