Mari Kodama with Beethoven No. 0 (August 2021)

Mari Kodama, known as a benchmark Beethoven interpreter, performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 0 with the Philharmonisches Orchester Bremerhaven under Marc Niemann on 30 and 31 August at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven. It is Beethoven’s almost unknown work from his younger years, which Mari Kodama recorded with the DSO under Kent Nagano and was released as a CD in 2019 on Berlin Classics along with all of Beethoven’s piano concertos as well as Beethoven’s Rondo for Piano and Orchestra WoO 6 and his “Eroica” Variations for Solo Piano Op. 35.

David Philip Hefti’s “Cantabile” now available on YouTube (August 2021)

David Philip Hefti’s concerto for viola and orchestra “Cantabile”, a 2019 commission from the Musikkollegium Winterthur, was premiered in January 2021. With the orchestra and also the soloist of the evening Jürg Dähler, Hefti shares a long friendship.

Rathausmarkt Open-Air Concerts with Kent Nagano (August 2021)

The Philharmonic State Orchestra and Kent Nagano will open the new concert season with the Rathausmarkt Open-Air on 14/15 August 2021. For the first time the concerts will be on to two days with two performances each. after the symphonic prelude on Saturday, a tribute to Jacques Offenbach will follow on Sunday with ensemble members of the Hamburg State Opera. At the same time, the event marks the festive conclusion of the Hamburger Kultursommer. Hamburg’s First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher will give a welcoming speech at the last performance on 15 August at 8:30 pm.

The Moritzburg Festival 2021 starts this weekend (August 2021)

This year’s Moritzburg Festival will take place from August 7 to 22. In addition to the opening concert with Jan Vogler (violoncello), Mira Wang (violin), Ulrich Eichenauer (viola) and Janne Saksala (double bass), among others, the program is full of interesting programs. A highlight is the orchestral concert with the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra under Josep Caballé Domenech and featuring Kevin Zhu (violin), Jan Vogler (cello), Mishka Rushdie Momen (piano) and works by de Arriaga, Beethoven and Schumann. Also on the program are the Picnic Concert in the Proschwitz Palace Park, the Long Night of Chamber Music on the North Terrace of Moritzburg Palace, and Special Chamber Music Performances. Omer Meir Wellber at Teatro Massimo in Palermo and at the Bregenz Festival (July 2021)l

As part of the 2021 summer season, Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the ballet Giselle with music by Adolphe Adam at the Teatro di Verdura on 29 and 30 July. The performance is a tribute to Italian dancer Carla Fracci, who was best known for her interpretations of romantic ballets, including the title role in Giselle.

Under the direction of Davide Bombana, the Teatro Massimo Ballet Company will perform Patrice Bart’s choreography, which is based on the historic choreography of the 1841 premiere by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrit. Please find more information here.

On 8 August, Omer Meir Wellber will make his Bregenz Festival debut at the Festspielhaus. The concert programme includes Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question, Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6 in A major, and Richard Strauss’ Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra with the Wiener Symphoniker and oboist Ramón Ortega Quero. Midori at the 61st Weimar Classes 2021 (July 2021)

Midori will once again teach a group of young people in Weimar at this year’s master classes. From 23-31 July, the courses will take place for the 61st time in Weimar at the Hochschule Für Musik FRANZ LISZT and will include individual lessons, orchestra studio and participant concerts at the end of the course.
