Ginastera – Bernstein – Moussa: Works for Violin and orchestra

On 27 November ANALEKTA presents the album Ginastera – Bernstein – Moussa: Works for Violin and Orchestra with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, under the direction of Kent Nagano and with Andrew Wan, concertmaster of the OSM.

Recorded in concert at the Maison symphonique de Montréal in 2019, the album brings together important works of the Americas, namely the Violin Concerto, Op. 30 by Alberto Ginastera, a score that requires no less than seven percussionists handling some fifty instruments, the imposing Serenade for Solo Violin, Strings, Harp and Percussion (after Plato’s Symposium) by Leonard Bernstein and the Violin Concerto “Adrano” by Samy Moussa, a world premiere recording and an OSM commission.

“It was a great joy to finally realize a new recording of the Ginastera and Bernstein works for violin and orchestra. They both represent exceptional “American” concerti. They, along with the new Moussa work, combine to make a special platform for the talents of Andrew Wan and the OSM. Special thanks to the OSM, producer Carl Talbot, Analekta and of course our David Sela who is one of music’s most visionary, dedicated and faithful friends” says Kent Nagano, former Music Director of the OSM.

I have long loved and identified with Bernstein’s mercurial Serenade, admire deeply the music of my friend Samy Moussa, and I am so grateful to have discovered Ginastera’s Violin Concerto – a demanding and profound work that deserves to be heard much more than it has” mentions Andrew Wan.
