Omer Meir Wellber, music director of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, receives the special prize of the Associazione Nazionale Critici Musicali.
The jury’s reasons: “[…] after months of silence, homages to Beethoven and a surprise evening of jazz, shone in the empty church of the Spasimo, where the versatile fantasist Wellber played accordion and piano. It is the confirmation of the new profile, in the role of chief conductor and musical director, that we can no longer do without”

Omer Meir Wellber returns to Stockholm for a livestream concert with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The concert on 16 April at 7 p.m., which will be streamed live as concert video on Berwaldhallen Play and played on Swedish Radio P2, will feature Ella Milch-Sheriff’s Contrapunctus XIV from Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge, Avner Dorman’s Mandolin Concerto with Jacob Reuven on mandolin, Aziza Sadikova’s Mirroring contrapunctus. Hyperion’s recording of works by John Tavener with Stefen Isserlis, Omer Meir Wellber, Matthew Rose and the Philharmonia Orchestra “Tavener: No longer mourn for me & other works for cello” won the BBC Music Magazine’s Premiere Award 2021.
Omer Meir Wellber receives the literary prize “Cielo D’Alcamo” in the category “Premio Speciale Internazionale” for his novel “Storia vera e non vera di Chaim Birkner”, which was published in January 2021 by the Italian publishing house Sellerio Editore. On 25 March, the award ceremony of the literary prize took place.
The novel was published under the title “Die vier Ohnmachten des Chaim Birkner” by BerlinVerlag in 2019.
On Friday, 19 March at 20:30 Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the Filarmonica Toscanini in Parma with a program of works by Beethoven, Dorman and Strauss.
With mandolinist Avi Avital and himself on the harpsichord, he will present Dorman’s Concerto for Mandolin and and Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D minor BWV 1052, adapted for mandolin and orchestra.

On Saturday, 13 March at 8 pm, a concert with Omer Meir Wellber conducting Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique” at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo will be available via stream.
