Mari Kodama

Pentatone released two CDs by Mari Kodama last year. The solo CD Kaleidoscope – Beethoven Transcriptions with transcriptions of Beethoven’s string quartets for piano by Saint-Saëns, Mussorgsky and Balakirev as well as Beethoven’s variations of the finale of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet. Then the duo CD MON AMI, Mon amour – French Repertoire for Cello and Piano with Matt Haimovitz, with works by Francis Poulenc, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Darius Milhaudso.

In December 2020, the world premiere of John Neumeier’s new ballet with Mari Kodama at the piano was scheduled, with a total of 13 performances of Beethoven Project II. More information about dates will be announced soon. Here you can already find some impressions.

 

Mari Kodama’s Letter to Beethoven on Deutschlandfunk (December 2020)

“Dear Ludwig, the world today would be so different without your music”

Since early childhood, Beethoven’s music has played an important role in the life of the pianist Mari Kodama, she writes in her letter to the composer in the series “Letters to Beethoven” of Deutschlandfunk. Even after 40 years of engagement with his music, she is still surprised by discoveries time and again.

Mari Kodama’s Album Launch (November 2020)

Mari Kodama will release the new CD “MON AMI, Mon amour – French Repertoire for Cello and Piano” together with Matt Haimovitz on November 6, 2020 on PENTATONE. The works of Francis Poulenc, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Darius Milhaud.

The vibrant musical palette of cellist Matt Haimovitz and the graceful insight of pianist Mari Kodama exquisitely meld in MON AMI, Mon amour.

The Virtual Album Launch will take place on Friday November 13th at 16.00 – LIVE on Facebook.

Mari Kodama’s “Kaleidoscope – Beethoven Transcriptions” (July 2020)

Mari Kodama, who has set Beehoven as a focal point in her discography, once again demonstrates her extraordinary abilities as a benchmark Beethoven interpreter with her CD Kaleidoscope – Beethoven Transcriptions. Mari Kodama plays a Steinway Lunch Concert (April 2020)

As a Steinway Artis Mari Kodama plays a Lunch Concert in the new online format on Steinways’ website. Accompanied by other Steinway Artists, Mari Kodama presents Beethoven in this nearly 20-minute concert on her grand piano at home.

Mari Kodama plays on Sunday with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille

Mari Kodama returns to the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille for a concert on January 26th 2020 in Aix-en-Provence, performing Bartók’s 2nd Piano Concerto under the baton of the young conductor Lio Kuokman, replacing Lawrence Foster.

New CD Box – Mari Kodama and Kent Nagano playing Beethoven (Oktober 2019)

With Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 0 E-flat Major WoO 4, a nearly unknown youth work of the composer, and his Rondo for Piano and Orchestra WoO 6, Mari Kodama and Kent Nagano expand their joint recordings of Beethoven’s works for piano and orchestra with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

The 4-CD edition will be released on 11 October 2019 with Berlin Classics.
