Today, Chief Conductor Kent Nagano and Artistic Director Georges Delnon have announced the new concert season 2018/19 of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg.
Kent Nagano leads five Philharmonic Concerts during the new season, in addition to the New Year’s Concert and a special concert at the International Hamburg Music Festival. These programmes include classic works by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. However, Hamburg’s General Music Director will also perform modern works, such as Ligeti’s Requiem and Atmosphères and Widmann’s Con brio.

On Friday, 16 February the OSM and Kent Nagano will present a musical experiment: With the orchestra hidden behind a curtain and the hall plunged into darkness, the audience will be left with only music to whisk it back to the 1960s, with, among others, the premiere of a work for electric guitar and orchestra by John Anthony Lennon.

Together with German lyricist Ulla Hahn, Kent Nagano and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg will perform Franz Schubert’s incidental music of Rosamunde on 4 and 5 February, with texts written by Ulla Hahn specifically for this production and herself as narrator during these concerts. These performances will mark the world premiere of this project.

Kent Nagano, General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera, will conduct the revival performances of Alban Berg’s Lulu and of Tosho Hosokawa’s Stilles Meer.
In 2016 (Stilles Meer) and 2017 (Lulu) Nagano premiered both new productions.

General Music Director of Hamburg State Opera Kent Nagano will conduct the revial performances of Wagner’s Walküre on 7, 14 and 20 January 2018. The production was premiered in 2008, staged by Claus Guth.

On Sunday, 19 November General Music Director of the State Oper Hamburg Kent Nagano will conduct the revival of Alban Berg’s opera Wozzeck, staged by Peter Konwitschny in 1998.
The performance dates will be on 19, 22 and 25 November as well as on 1 December.

On 8 November it was officially annouced that Kent Nagano will return to the Salzburg Festival in July 2018 both in concert and opera performances.
With the Vienna Phliharmonic he will perform the new opera production of Hans Werner Henze’s The Bassarides, staged by Krzysztof Warlikowski. It will be the first time for Kent Nagano to conduct a piece by Henze at the Salzburg Festival. The premiere will be on 16 August. Further performances will take place on 19, 23 and 26 August.
The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, whose Music Director Kent Nagano has been since 2006, is performing the opening concert of the Festival 2018 on 20 July as part of the opening series Ouverture Spirituelle – with Krzysztof Penderecki‘s St. Luke Passion. It will be the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal‘s debut at the Salzburg Festival.
On 29 October conductor Kent Nagano has received the ECHO Klassik award 2017 as conductor of the year for his interpretation of Strauss’ Eine Alpensinfonie recorded with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (FARO Classics, 2016).
During the award ceremony in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Kent Nagano also conducted the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, whose Chief Conductor he is.
