Kent Nagano starts his new position in Hamburg (September 2015)

On Sunday, 13 September in Hamburg, Kent Nagano will conduct his first Akademiekonzert in the church St. Michaelis („Michel“) with the Chamber Orchester of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra. It will be his first concert within his new position: Kent Nagano is the new Hamburg General Music Director of the State Opera and Chiefconductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra.

Manfred Honeck at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik-Festival (August 2015)

On 7 and 8 August conductor Manfred Honeck will stand at the rostrum of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in Flensburg and Lübeck on the occasion of Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.

Together with percussionist Martin Grubinger they will perform the percussion concert by Bruno Hartl. Furthermore the orchestra will play Tchaikovsky’s 5. Symphony.

ARC Ensemble: New CD in September (August 2015)

In the end of September 2015 the Canadian ARC Ensemble will release a new CD with the British label Chandos.

Five never-before-published works by the Polish composer Jerzy Fitelberg (1903 – 1951) will be presented:

Enoch zu Guttenberg conducts „Peace Orchestra“ at Young Euro Classic Festival (August 2015)

On 23 August Conductor Enoch zu Guttenberg will lead the “Peace Orchestra” on the occasion of the final concert of the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin. The orchestra has been joined together for this concert and consists of young musicians from Germany, Russia, Ukraine and Armenia. Despite the political relations the orchestra is a symbol of peaceful and international understanding and respect.

Together they will perform Beethoven’s symphony No. 9 with the “Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern.”

Moritzburg Festival | 15-30 August 2015 (August 2015)

This Saturday, the Moritzburg Festival for chamber music will open its doors near Dresden. More than 20 musicians – including ECHO Klassik Award winning horn player Felix Klieser, violist Lawrence Power, cellist Johannes Moser and pianist Francesco Piemontesi – have been invited by the Artistic Director and cellist, Jan Vogler, to rehearse and perform together besides the tranquil lakes of the baroque Moritzburg Castle.

This year’s composer in residence is Matthias Pintscher, whose Now II for solo cello will be premiered by Jan Vogler on 30 August.

Kent Nagano with Göteborgs Symfoniker at Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm (August 2015)

Kent Nagano, Artistic Advisor and Principal Buest Conductor of the Gothenborg Symphony Orchestra since 2013, is going to perform with the orchestra at the Baltic Sea Festival in Berwaldhallen / Stockholm on 24 August. The orchestra will play works bei Sibelius and Strauss. Clarinet player Martin Fröst will also present the clarinet concerto by Carl Nielsen.
The same program can already be heard on 21 August in Göteborgs Konzerthuset.

Final concert Herrenchiemsee Festspiele (July 2015)

On Sunday, 26 July, the Herrenchiemsee Festspiele celebrated their final concert for this season on the Herreninsel in Bavarian lake Chiemsee.

The director of the festival Enoch zu Guttenberg conducted the choir Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern and the Orchestra of the KlangVerwaltung. Together they performed Robert Schumann’s rarely presented secular Oratorio “Das Paradies und die Peri”.

This piece with the same cast will also be performed on 30 July at the Rheingau Musik Festival in the Basilica of the monastery “Kloster Eberbach”. Please find here details of this performance with Enoch zu Guttenberg.

Next year the festival will take place from 12 – 24 July 2016, presenting the slogan “Nachtmusik”.

Season Announcement 2015/2016 in Hamburg (April 2015)

Kent Nagano, future General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Georges Delnon, the future Intendant of the Hamburg State Opera, John Neumeier, Director and Chief Choreographer of the Hamburg Ballet, and Detlef Meierjohann, Managing Director of the Hamburg State Opera presented the 2015/2016 season in a press conference today. In keeping with the meaningful tradition of the three institutions, the new leadership team has set the goal of developing an individual and recognizable profile that spans the bridge between considered cultivation of traditional repertoire and a distinctive passion for new forms.

The Hamburg State Opera will open the season with Berlioz’s opera “Les Troyens”, with Michael Thalheimer giving his directorial debut and Kent Nagano raising his baton for the first time at the opera house. Alongside this production, the revitalized opera stabile will not only host Christoph Marthaler’s “Isoldes Abendbrot”, featuring the mezzosoprano Anne Sofie von Otter, but will also present the world premiere of “Weine night, singe” by Michael Wertmüller, directed by Jette Steckel.

Love and the experience of human agony are the overriding themes of both of the Hamburg Ballet’s premieres in the 2015/2016 season. John Neumeier will choreograph the story of the Italian actress Eleonore Duse and will also bring Messiaen’s symphony “Turangalîla” to the stage, conducted by Kent Nagano. Included in the season’s numerous repertoire productions is “A Cinderella Story” as well as the “Saint Matthew Passion”, set to J.S. Bach’s poignant music.

Hamburg’s new General Music Director Kent Nagano and the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra will start their first season together by paying homage to great composers of Hamburg. The 188th concert season will be characterised by classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Berlioz and Mahler together with works by contemporary artists such as Unsuk Chin, Toshio Hosokawa and Peter Ruzicka. Kent Nagano will conduct seven concert programmes, while guest conductors include Philippe Herreweghe and Lothar Zagrosek.
