Herbert Blomstedt conducts Berlin Philharmonic (January 2017)

Swedish conductor Herbert Blomstedt, who will celebrate his 90. birthday in July 2017, will conduct the Berlin Philharmonic on 19, 20 and 21 January.

Bartok’s Piano Concert No. 3 together with András Schiff and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 will be on the program.

Herbert Blomstedt’s 90. birthday: Book publication (January 2017

On the occasion of his 90. birthday in 2017 German journalist Julia Spinola will publish a new book containing collected conversations and interviews with conductor Herbert Blomstedt.

On mutual trips and at biographically important places, Herbert Blomstedt talks about his musical and human convictions.

The book will be published in German language on 13 March 2017 at Henschel publishing house.

Omer Meir Wellber conducts Premiere of Tannhäuser in Venice (January 2017)

On Friday, 20 January Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the premiere of Wagner’s Tannhäuser staged by Calixto Bieto at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Further performances will be on 24 and 28 January as well as on 1 and 5 February 2017.

Elbphilharmonie opening in Hamburg: Special concert with Kent Nagano (January 2017)

On 13 January 2017 Kent Nagano and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg will give their first concert in the Elbphilharmonie on the occasion of the opening festivities. Kent Nagano has assigned composing a piece for this special occasion to Jörg Widmann: “ARCHE”, a large scale piece for vocal soloists, organ, choirs and orchestra.

The concert will be broadcast live at 20:00 on German radio channel NDR Kultur.

Midori nominated for ICMA Audio and Video Award 2017 (January 2017)

Midori’s recording of Eötvös’ Violin Concerto DoReMi  – written for and dedicated to Midori and released on Alpha Records, together with Eötvös’ Cello Concerto Grosso and Speaking Drums – was announced as one of the three finalists of ICMA’s Audio and Video Awards 2017 Contemporary section.

The Finalists come from a list with 321 nominated releases from 119 labels.

The final result will be published on 19 January 2017. The Award Ceremony and Gala concert is scheduled for 1 April 2017 in Leipzig, with the Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Francesco Angelico.

Kent Nagano conducts Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich (January 2017)

Kent Nagano will conduct the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich on 7 and 8 January 2017.

Pianist Daniil Trifonov will play Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in c major. Furthermore Messiaen’s „Éclairs sur l’Au-Delà“ will be performed.
