The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. last night, January 13, announced the five honorees to receive the 43rd Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime achievement in the arts. The 2020 Kennedy Center Honors, traditionally held in early December each year, have been postponed until May 2021 due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients to be honored at the 43rd annual national celebration are: Violinist Midori, choreographer and actress Debbie Allen, singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez, country singer Garth Brooks and actor Dick Van Dyke.READ MORE

Karin Kei Nagano’s new CD (January 2021)

In November 2020, Analekta will release a new CD by pianist Karin Kei Nagano. The CD Reincarnation: Schubert – Messiaen includes Franz Schubert’s Sonata in B flat major and Oliver Messiaen’s Première communion de la vierge from Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésu.

The CD will also be available in Europe from January 2021. As a stream, the album is available on the usual channels.

OSM announces Rafael Payare as new Music Director (January 2021)

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) announced today that Rafael Payare will become its next Music Director, effective from the 2022-2023 season for a minimum of five years. Mr. Payare assumes the position of Music Director Designate from September 1, 2021, taking over from Kent Nagano, who held the position of Music Director from 2006 to 2020.READ MORE
