Kent Nagano at the lit.COLOGNE (March 2022)

This coming Sunday, 20 March, Kent Nagano will present his book “10 lessons of my Life – Was wirklich zählt” (Berlin Verlag, 2021) at the lit.COLOGNE.
In conversation with Claudia Dichter, Nagano will discuss important events in his life that influenced him beyond his artistic path, including encounters with Leonard Bernstein and the pop musician Björk.

Kent Nagano conducts A Quiet Place with Opéra national de Paris (March 2022)

On 9 March 2022, Kent Nagano will conduct the premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s A Quiet Place at the Opéra national de Paris in the Palais Garnier in a new production by Krzysztof Warlikowski. This marks Nagano’s return to the Opéra national de Paris, where he has previously conducted Wozzeck, Elektra, Dialogues des carmélites, Cardillac and Werther.

Midori plays Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the NDR Radiophilharmonie (February 2022)

Following after the concert, Midori will give the Kim and Judy Davis Dean’s Lecture in the Humanities at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute. In the online lecture, she will talk about nonprofit organizing and volunteerism. The lecture will be streamed online via Zoom, registration is available here.

David Philip Hefti (January 2022)

In April 2022 David Philip Hefti’s Fünf Szenen für Gustav – String Quartet No. 6 and his arrangement of the Rückert Lieder by Gustav Mahler (soprano: Juliane Banse) will be heard with the Amaryllis Quartet in Bremen, Lübeck and Hamburg. In the Kölner Philharmonie, Neues Werk for viola and string orchestra, a composition commissioned by Camerata Zürich and Kölner Philharmonie, will be premiered with Lawrence Power.

In 2021, Patricia Kopatchinskaja invited composer David Philip Hefti to be CAMERATA BERN’s Composer-in-Residence and conducted as well as performed the world premiere of his work Sechs Klanginseln – for violin, clarinet and string orchestra in Bern. The concert program combines Hefti’s music with works by Schubert, Bartok and Schönberg, among others, and can be listened to here.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (January 2022)

Manfred Honeck has been Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2008; last year, at the orchestra’s request, his contract was extended through the 2027/28 season.

After seven successful European tours, Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony will tour together again in the summer of 2022. Info to follow.

The orchestra’s recording of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (Reference Recordings) has been nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Orchestral Performance and Best Engineered Album.
