Midori plays Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the NDR Radiophilharmonie (February 2022)
This week Midori performs Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under Andrew Manze in Hannover and Wolfsburg, making her debut in Hannover. Please find more information about the concerts as well as tickets here.

Ludwig van Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major op. 61
Following after the concert, Midori will give the Kim and Judy Davis Dean’s Lecture in the Humanities at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute. In the online lecture, she will talk about nonprofit organizing and volunteerism. The lecture will be streamed online via Zoom, registration is available here.

David Philip Hefti (January 2022)
In April 2022 David Philip Hefti’s Fünf Szenen für Gustav – String Quartet No. 6 and his arrangement of the Rückert Lieder by Gustav Mahler (soprano: Juliane Banse) will be heard with the Amaryllis Quartet in Bremen, Lübeck and Hamburg. In the Kölner Philharmonie, Neues Werk for viola and string orchestra, a composition commissioned by Camerata Zürich and Kölner Philharmonie, will be premiered with Lawrence Power.
In 2021, Patricia Kopatchinskaja invited composer David Philip Hefti to be CAMERATA BERN’s Composer-in-Residence and conducted as well as performed the world premiere of his work Sechs Klanginseln – for violin, clarinet and string orchestra in Bern. The concert program combines Hefti’s music with works by Schubert, Bartok and Schönberg, among others, and can be listened to here.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (January 2022)
Manfred Honeck has been Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2008; last year, at the orchestra’s request, his contract was extended through the 2027/28 season.
After seven successful European tours, Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony will tour together again in the summer of 2022. Info to follow.
The orchestra’s recording of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (Reference Recordings) has been nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Orchestral Performance and Best Engineered Album.

Kent Nagano (January 2022)
After a festive year 2021 in Kent Nagano’s life, with his 70th birthday and the publication of the 3 CD box set with works by Olivier Messiaen on the BR Klassik Label as well as his German book “10 Lessons of my Life – Was wirklich zählt” by Berlin Verlag, he will be in Hamburg and Paris in the coming weeks.
In Hamburg, in addition to symphony concerts with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, he will conduct revivals of Wagner’s Lohengrin and Strauss’ Elektra at the Hamburg State Opera, and further performances of John Neumeier’s Beethoven Project II.
At Opera de Paris, he will lead the new production of Bernstein’s A Quiet Place, staged by Krzysztof Warlikowski in March 2022.

Mari Kodama (January 2022)
In the concert hall La Scala in Paris, Mari Kodama will perform a program of works by John Adams, Barber, Reich and Samuel Adams with Momo Kodama (piano) in February and works for 2 pianos by Bach, Kurtág and Messiaen with Markus Hinterhäuser (piano) in Schloss Elmau in April.
Together with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Kent Nagano, Mari Kodama played the world premiere of the piano concerto Terra Nostra by French composer Rodolphe Bruneau-Boulmier at the Berlin Philharmonie last October.
After the premiere in May 2021, Mari Kodama will again perform in John Neumeier’s Beethoven Project II at Hamburg Ballet in February 2022.

Jan Vogler (January 2022)
On the occasion of the Day of German Unity in 2021, cellist Jan Vogler received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In the next two months, Jan Vogler will appear as a soloist at the Teatro Massimo for a Holocaust memorial concert and a symphony concert in Palermo and with a solo program at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
Following its successful premiere at the 74th Festival de Cannes, “NEW WORLDS: THE CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION” (trailer) will be released in February (US) and March (Europe). Andrew Muscato’s film accompanies the concert of Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & Friends in Athens.

Omer Meir Wellber (January 2022)
In two days, Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the new production of Verdi’s Les Vêpres siciliennes, staged by Emma Dante, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo which will be streamed live on ARTE Concert on 20 January at 7 p.m. CET.
Omer Meir Wellber started the new year 2022 with a special concert at the Teatro Massimo with Erwin Schrott and the Teatro’s chorus and orchestra. He performed some pieces with an accordion built especially for him by the renowned Italian company Pigini.
He will return to Dresden at the Semperoper in March and April with revivals of Don Giovanni, Cosi fan tutte and Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as a new production of Madama Butterfly (Amon Miyamoto, staging).

Midori (January 2022)
For her lifetime achievement, Midori was awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in May 2021.
In March 2022, Midori will tour Europe with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the orchestra with which she performed the world premiere of Detlev Glanert’s Violin Concerto No. 2 “To the Immortal Beloved” dedicated to her in Edinburgh in November 2021.
Together with pianist Özgür Aydin, Midori will perform in March at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Capistrano Hall in Sacramento and Chamber Music San Francisco with works of Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, and Nikos Skalkottas.
With the Festival Strings Lucerne, she will play four concerts in Germany in April, with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major and Romances Nos. 1 and 2 on the program. A joint recording of these works was released by Warner Classics in 2020.

Concerts with Omer Meir Wellber and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg and Lübeck (December 2021)
Omer Meir Wellber presents a special program in Hamburg and Lübeck together with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester. Ella Milch Sheriff’s monodrama Der ewige Fremde was premiered in February 2020 at the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig with the same protagonists as here in Hamburg and Lübeck. The concert will be broadcast live 19 December at 11 a.m. on NDR Kultur.
