Midori – Begin of the New Academic Year 2019-20 at the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia (September 2019)

After a summer with master classes and performances at festivals and summer schools at Interlochen Center for the Arts (Michigan, USA), Domaine Forget International Festival (Québec, Canada), Ravinia’s Summer Conservatory at Ravinia Steans Music Institute (Illinois, USA), Krzyżowa Music, Aspen Music Festival (Colorado, USA) and at the Weimar Master Classes in Germany, Midori’s new academic year 2019-20 in Philadelphia is about to start. It is her second academic year at the city’s Curtis Institute of Music where she joined the Violin Faculty last year, entering a storied violin lineage and robust community engagement program.

Midori at the 60th Weimar Master Classes (July 2019)

Also in this year, Midori will be back at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar to teach at the Weimar Master Classes. From Saturday, 20 July on, international students will have the opportunity to receive lessons from Midori. In addition to individual and group lessons, the orchestra studio with the Jenaer Philharmonie as well as a participant concert at the end of the course, Midori will bring music together with her students to a social institution in the city.

Further master classes will follow in August in Domaine Forget (Canada) and Krzyzowa (Poland).

Midori receives Great Immigrant honour from the Carnegie Corporation of New York (July 2019)

Midori has been named as one of the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Great Immigrants for 2019. Every Fourth of July, the Corporation salutes 38 naturalised citizens who strengthen the United States’ economy, culture and communities.

The Corporation’s founder, Andrew Carnegie, was himself a naturalised citizen. He was born in Scotland and rose out of poverty to become one of the greatest contributors to American industry and philanthropy. He was a staunch advocate for immigration and the Great Immigrant initiative was founded in 2006 to honour his legacy. To date it has honoured nearly 600 individuals.

Midori – Concerts with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra (March 2019)

On 19 and 20 March, Midori will be guest at the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra. Under the baton of Julia Jones, she will perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto.

Midori on tour with the Munich Chamber Orchestra (March 2019)

From 10 March, violinist Midori will go on a tour together with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and its concert master Daniel Giglberger. They will be guest in Erlangen and Regensburg in Bavaria / Germany as well as in Olten in Switzerland and in Budapest, and will perform the following program:

Midori at the Komische Oper Berlin (February 2019)

On Friday, 22 February, Midori will be guest at the Komischen Oper Berlin. Togehter with the Orchestra of the Komischen Oper Berlin, conducted by Hermann Bäumer, she will perform Schumann’s Violinkonzert.

Midori in Rome at the U.N. (February 2019)

On 14 February, Midori attends the 42nd annual Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) of the U.N. During the Governing Council’s opening ceremony, Pope Francis addresses heads-of-state, government ministers, and policy and development leaders. Midori performs for an audience of dignitaries including the Pope and speaks about her field visit to an IFAD-funded project in Viet Nam last December with her non-profit Music Sharing. Other special events, panels and interactive sessions include guests like 15-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg or Rwandan choreographer Sherrie Silver.
