“Wagner Readings” Podcast with Kent Nagano (May 2021)

Podcast on research results of the “Wagner Readings” presented by the Friends of Concerto Köln and the Kunststiftung NRW.

Episode 01: In the first episode of the podcast on the Wagner Readings, hosts Thilo Braun and Niklas Rudolph introduce the project: a historically-informed “Ring of the Nibelung”. Kent Nagano, Jochen Schäfsmeier, Kai Hinrich Müller and the musicians of Concerto Köln explain how the Wagner readings came about.

Starting on 6 May, the podcast will appear at 14-day intervals on Spotify and at https://wagner-lesarten.de. The associated scientific publications will be released at the same time.

Kent Nagano and Jan Vogler to open the Musikfest Hamburg 2021 (April 2021)

On 6 May, Kent Nagano will open this year’s Musikfest Hamburg 2021 together with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg. The program includes Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and the world premiere of the Triple Concerto “Alisma”; a work for violin, violoncello, clarinet and orchestra by the Swiss composer William Blank.

Soloists in this tribute to Beethoven include cellist Jan Vogler and violinist Mira Wang, as well as Vienna Philharmonic principal clarinetist Daniel Ottensamer.

Kent Nagano at the Hamburg State Opera – Digital Easter Program 2021 (April 2021)

The Hamburg State Opera is offering a digital Easter program on their homepage. From 2 April to 5 April 2021, selected productions from the repertoire of the State Opera will be available free of charge as video-on-demand. In addition, the Hamburg production La Passione, the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach under the musical direction of Kent Nagano, will be shown on ARTE on 3 April 2021 and will be available in the Mediathek.

Kent Nagano in conversation – Krzysztof Penderecki’s St. Lukes Passion on DLF Chormusik (March 2021)

“When the St. Lukes Passion had its world premiere in Münster in 1966, it was reported in feature articles all over the world. The work was discussed quite controversially. But it was soon clear: it is a milestone in 20th century music.”

In June 2020, BIS-Records released the recording of Krzysztof Penderecki’s St. Lukes Passion, which was recorded with Kent Nagano and the OSM on the opening night of the prestigious Salzburg Festival at the Felsenreitschule Salzburg in July 2018.

 

The OSM appoints Kent Nagano Conductor Emeritus (February 2021)

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) is pleased and proud to announce that today, Kent Nagano receives the honorary title of Conductor Emeritus of the Orchestra. Appointed by the Board of Directors, he becomes the third Music Director of the OSM to receive this recognition after Wilfrid Pelletier and Zubin Mehta.

Under the musical direction of Kent Nagano and animated by Luis August Krawen, Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg is available as a stream from the Hamburg State Opera on YouTube. Soloists are Anja Silja, Nicole Chevalier and Marie-Dominique Ryckmanns.

Last June, Kent Nagano was conducting the Munich Philharmonic; Marie-Luise Modersohn and Julian Shevlin played as the orchestra’s own soloists. The video production of this concert program will be available free of charge from January 16 (7 p.m.) to January 23 (7 p.m.) at mphil.de/stream.
