The »MAGIC« of the Dresden Music Festival has unfolded its full charm in the past four and a half weeks. Musical highlights, standing ovations, and dancing guests in the concert halls: With the first full-scale edition since the start of the pandemic, director Jan Vogler and his team managed to send audiences home in a euphoric mood. Since May 11, around 42,000 guests have flocked to 65 concerts in 25 venues in Dresden. With heart, caution and a high degree of flexibility, the Dresden Music Festival is currently preparing for its 44th festival season from May 14 to June 12, 2021. The aim is to provide world-class musical live events under the motto »Dialogues« in Dresden – while giving top priority to the protection of the health of the audience and organizers. For this reason, director Jan Vogler and his festival team are in constant dialogue with politicians, artists and the festival partners.
This year, the Dresden Music Festival turns the internet into a concert hall. Director and world renowned cellist Jan Vogler invites the audience in Dresden and all over the world to join him on May 16, from 6 pm (CET) for »Music Never Sleeps DMF« – a 24h Livestream Festival.
Jan Vogler will remain director of the Dresden Music Festival for the upcoming years: The internationally acclaimed cellist has extended his contract with the state capital of Dresden to 2026. In 2009, he assumed the role of director of the festival, founded in 1978, and has since endeavored to establish it as one of the most important and successful classical music festivals in Europe. From 2009 to 2019, the Festival’s revenue from ticket sales and funds from sponsors has increased fivefold.
