The Dresden Music Festival takes place as a 24h Livestream Festival on May 16, 2020 #musicneversleepsdmf (May 2020)

This year, the Dresden Music Festival turns the internet into a concert hall. Director and world renowned cellist Jan Vogler invites the audience in Dresden and all over the world to join him on May 16, from 6 pm (CET) for »Music Never Sleeps DMF« – a 24h Livestream Festival.

The online festival is presented in collaboration with Jan Vogler’s initiative »Music Never Sleeps NYC«. It became an international sensation in March and was described by the Süddeutsche Zeitung as »… currently the most impressive of the many signs of life which the classical world attempted to show in times of concert hall closures.«

At the Dresden edition, more than 50 of the festival’s musicians along with artists that have been connected to the festival for years will carry the unique festival atmosphere to living rooms across the globe. Musicians like Fabio Luisi, Jamie Cullum, Pape Diouf, Aoife O’Donovan, Omer Meir Wellber, Nils Landgren, Simone Kermes, Francesco Tristano, Valer Sabadus, Avi Avital, James Ehnes, Mischa Maisky, Martin Stadtfeld, José Cura, Gil Shaham and The Knights will stream short music acts from their living rooms and rehearsal spaces all over the world. Additionally, the Dresden Festival Orchestra under the baton Ivor Bolton and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev will appear in the stream with programs from previous years. Jan Vogler will be supported by his co-host singer Ute Lemper.

»In times of crisis like these it is crucial that we think of our audience, our artists and our partners like the City of Dresden, the Free State of Saxony as well as our sponsors and celebrate the 2020 Dresden Music Festival intensely – at least for 24 hours,« says Jan Vogler.

The stream will be broadcast on the Dresden Music Festival’s website, Youtube and Facebook channels, along with the channels of »Music Never Sleeps NYC«. The latest news regarding the program can be found with the hashtag #musicneversleepsdmf or on the festival’s website.

The 43rd Dresden Music Festival was scheduled for May 12 to June 12, 2020, and was canceled because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
