Herrenchiemsee Festival 2017 (April 2017)

From 18 – 30 July 2017 this year’s Herrenchiemsee Festival will take place.

“Paths of discoveries, into a future of the new, through change and revolution, but also diversity and unity. The Baroque world – the time of a new beginning!”

Conductor and festival director Enoch zu Guttenberg will open the festival on Baroque paths at Kloster Frauenchiemsee, where on the 18 and 19 of July he will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion, together with the KlangVerwaltung orchestra and the Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern.

But it is not only Baroque works that the festival is going to offer. The Munich Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Clemens Schuldt, will present works by Haydn, Liszt and Britten. Additionally, the pianist Gerhard Oppitz plays a program with works by Grieg, Franck, Brahms etc., and Enoch zu Guttenberg will conduct Mozart’s Great Mass in c minor next to Bach’s Magnificat.

As every year, the Herrenchiemsee Festspiele will take place in the king’s castle on the Herreninsel as well as in the Monastery of the island Frauenchiemsee, both in the middle of the Chiemsee, 70 km southeast of Munich, and with beautiful views of the Chiemgau Alps. You will again experience the ferry crossing to the islands, the coachride to the castle, the traditional alphorn players during the concert intermissions on the yard of the castle, and the nocturnal return to shore by ferry.
