7-11 August: Kent Nagano and OSM present Virée Classique 2019 (August 2019)

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and its Music Director Kent Nagano will present the eighth edition of the Virée Classique/Classical Spree Festival in Montréal from 7 to 11 August.

Jan Vogler’s Moritzburg Festival starts on 4 August (August 2019)

The Moritzburg Festival 2019 will take place from 4 – 18 August. It will be the 27th edition of the festival. The artistic director of the festival is the cellist Jan Vogler.

This year’s patron is the soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Manfred Honeck and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra with Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 (July 2019)

The new CD by Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will be released on 23 August 2019.

With the recording of Bruckner’s 9th Symphony, the PSO and Manfred Honeck continue their successful collaboration with Reference Recordings.

Omer Meir Wellber’s Debut at the BBC Proms (July 2019)

On 23 and 29 July 2019, Omer Meir Wellber will give his debut as the new Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and simultaneously at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

“Mit dem Cello um die Welt” with Jan Vogler (July 2019)

Jan Vogler is often referred to as Dresden’s “artistic foreign minister”. As artistic director of the music festival, the cellist invites renowned artists to the Elbe and promotes the city worldwide.

Midori at the 60th Weimar Master Classes (July 2019)

Also in this year, Midori will be back at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar to teach at the Weimar Master Classes. From Saturday, 20 July on, international students will have the opportunity to receive lessons from Midori. In addition to individual and group lessons, the orchestra studio with the Jenaer Philharmonie as well as a participant concert at the end of the course, Midori will bring music together with her students to a social institution in the city.

Further master classes will follow in August in Domaine Forget (Canada) and Krzyzowa (Poland).

Mari Kodama and Kent Nagano at the SWR Symphonieorchester (July 2019)

On 18, 19 and 20 July, Mari Kodama and Kent Nagano will be guests at the SWR Symphonieorchester in Stuttgart and Freiburg. They will perform Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto and Bruckner’s Symphony Nr. 6.
The concert on 19 July will be video streamed live on SWRClassic and SWRClassic’s facebook page.

Midori receives Great Immigrant honour from the Carnegie Corporation of New York (July 2019)

Midori has been named as one of the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Great Immigrants for 2019. Every Fourth of July, the Corporation salutes 38 naturalised citizens who strengthen the United States’ economy, culture and communities.

The Corporation’s founder, Andrew Carnegie, was himself a naturalised citizen. He was born in Scotland and rose out of poverty to become one of the greatest contributors to American industry and philanthropy. He was a staunch advocate for immigration and the Great Immigrant initiative was founded in 2006 to honour his legacy. To date it has honoured nearly 600 individuals.
