Jan Vogler, Dresden/Saxony
Culture is as much a part of life as eating, drinking and sleeping,” says the cellist, who is considered one of the greats of his instrument. He not only proclaims this message, he lives it. Jan Vogler became principal cellist of the Staatskapelle Dresden at the age of twenty, and at thirty he began his solo career and has since been celebrated on concert stages around the world. At the same time, the cosmopolitan has always remained true to his native Saxony, where he has left his mark on the musical world in a very special way. Jan Vogler has been the artistic director of the Dresden Music Festival since 2009 and the artistic director of the Moritzburg Festival, which he co-founded, since 1993. He is particularly interested in bringing together young musicians from all over the world. Because Jan Vogler’s message also includes the dialogue of cultures – and this is needed more than ever in times of pandemic.
