Grammy Nomination Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra & Manfred Honeck / Bruckner 4 (December 2015)

The SACD of Symphony No. 4 by Anton Bruckner, recorded by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director Manfred Honeck has received a Grammy nomination (published in February 2015 at Reference Recordings). The award ceremony will take place on 15 February 2016.

Manfred Honeck at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik-Festival (August 2015)

On 7 and 8 August conductor Manfred Honeck will stand at the rostrum of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in Flensburg and Lübeck on the occasion of Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.

Together with percussionist Martin Grubinger they will perform the percussion concert by Bruno Hartl. Furthermore the orchestra will play Tchaikovsky’s 5. Symphony.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra & Manfred Honeck: new CD (February 2015)

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck presents its new SACD: Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. The recording will be published on 10 February 2015 by Reference Recordings in the version of 1878/80.

Manfred Honeck who has been Music Director in Pittsburgh since the 2008/2009 season writes about the recording: “For me, it was essential to adjust the Bruckner sound to match the character and nature of the ‘Romantic’ music, seeking a variety of colors ranging from the enormity of the sound blocks to also unbelievably soft and lyric playing.”

Grammy Award Nomination for PSO (December 2014)

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra led by Music Director Manfred Honeck has been nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance for its Dvořák/Janáček release.

The album, including Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 and the Symphonic Suite from Jenůfa by Leoš Janáček, has been released in July 2014 from Reference Recordings’ label.

The Grammy Awards Ceremony will be held February 8th, 2015.

Manfred Honeck conducts Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica (December 2014)

Manfred Honeck, Music Director of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, will conduct this year’s Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Honeck will lead an orchestra composed of musicians from Rome and throughout the world in Et Incarnatus Est from Mozart’s Mass in C minor. Israeli singer Chen Reiss will sing one of the solo parts.

The Christmas Mass will be celebrated by Pope Francis and broadcast live beginning at 3:30 p.m. EST on EWTN TV and radio, Vatican Radio and the Vatican Youtube channel, among others.

Strauss CD of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra nominated for ICMA (November 2014)

The Strauss recording by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Manfred Honeck is nominated in the Symphonic Music category of the International Classic Music Awards. The CD with three of Strauss’ “Tondichtungen” – “Don Juan”, “Death and Transfiguration” and “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks” was published in November 2013 by Reference Recordings.

The final result with the ICMA winners will be published January 20, 2015.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: Season opening (September 2014)

Music Director Manfred Honeck welcomes Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter to the 2014-15 Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra season on Sept. 13 with a gala concert “For Your Eyes Only”.

The evening promises a feast for all the senses, the Gala concert features a variety of short, evocative tone poems and opera pieces. Mutter closes the evening with a performance of one of the most popular works for violin, Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor.
