25. Moritzburg Festival in August (May 2017)

From 5 – 20 August 2017 the 25. Moritzburg Festival will take place.

Under the artistic direction of cellist Jan Vogler, the festival has established itself as one of the world’s leading chamber music festivals.

Every August, internationally renowned soloists and outstanding young artists from all over the world meet in idyllic Moritzburg near Dresden. Together they work on new interpretations of chamber music works and present them in dynamic, flexible formations.

On 5 August the opening concert will take place in Volkswagen’s “Die Gläserne Manufaktur” in Dresden, presented by the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra conducted by Josep Caballé Domenech. Violinist Mira Wang and violist Ruth Killius will play Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante E flat major KV 364.

Well-known musicians such as violinists Arabella Steinbacher, Ning Feng and Baiba Skride, violist Lawrence Power and pianist Lise de la Salle will follow the invitation to the Saxon idyll.

Composer-in-residence in 2017 will be Sven Helbig.

Jan Vogler & Bill Murray present CD “New worlds” (April 2017)

The CD New Worlds will combine US literature by Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain and Fenimore Cooper with works by Bach, Schubert, Piazzolla and Gershwin.

Next to cellist Jan Vogler and Bill Murray, who will sing and recite the texts, violinist Mira Wang and pianist Vanessa Perez will take part in the project. As Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & Friends they will premiere the program on 4 June 2017 at Dresden Music Festival. From July 2017 they will tour through North America et al in New York Carnegie Hall.

Jan Vogler: new Schumann recording with Dresden Festival Orchestra by Sony (October 2016)

On 21 October 2016 the new Schumann recording of Jan Vogler together with the Dresden Festival Orchestra will be released by Sony.

Offering lively interpretations on historical instruments, the Dresden Festival Orchestra has become the unmistakable voice of the Dresden Music Festival since its inception in 2012. After the extraordinary success of its Dresden concerts, SONY Classical releases the orchestra’s first CD featuring works by Robert Schumann. Under the baton of Ivor Bolton and with cellist Jan Vogler as soloist, the musicians set out in search of the original sound of Dresden’s Romantic period.

In 2017 the Dresden Music Festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Find the festival‘s program here.

Jan Vogler and Mira Wang at MDR Musiksommer (August 2016)

Cellist Jan Vogler and violinist Mira Wang will perform at MDR Musiksommer in Suhl and Freyburg on 27 and 28 August.

The MDR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kristjan Järvi will play Tchaikovsky’s symphony No. 5.

Together with Jan Vogler and Mira Wang, Brahms’ concerto for violin, violoncello & Orchester a minor op. 102 will be performed.
