Renowned bass-baritone Erwin Schrott has captivated audiences in the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Vienna State Opera, and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Born in Montevideo, he launched his operatic career at 22, quickly gaining international acclaim following his win at „Operalia.“ Known for his exceptional portrayals of Don Giovanni and Leporello, he became a reference in Mozartian roles, performing in major houses from London to Los Angeles. His repertoire spans iconic roles such as Escamillo in Carmen, Banquo in Macbeth, Mefistofele, and Procida in Les Vêpres Siciliennes.
A Sony Classical artist, Schrott’s recordings, including the acclaimed Rojotango album, have garnered worldwide recognition, including an ECHO Classic Award. Over recent seasons, he has delivered celebrated performances across Europe and North America, from Don Giovanni in Munich and Buenos Aires to debuting Il Turco in Italia at the Rossini Festival.
In 2023, Schrott continued his remarkable journey with standout performances in Tales of Hoffmann at Staatsoper Hamburg and the Ópera Royal de Liège, as well as a celebrated return to Teatro Colón as Selim in Il Turco in Italia. A major highlight of the year was his debut on the big screen in The Opera, directed by Davide Livermore. January 2024 saw him on the stage of the Wiener Staatsoper, portraying Procida in I Vespri Siciliani. Later that month, he transported audiences into the soul of tango with a deeply moving concert in Gstaad, and in July, his powerful voice resonated beautifully through Traunstein, leaving a lasting impression. As 2024 unfolds, Schrott continues to impress, performing as Leporello in Don Giovanni at Staatsoper Hamburg and currently starring as Don Pasquale at the Wiener Staatsoper, further highlighting his dramatic range and versatility.
The upcoming season promises thrilling engagements: In January 2025, he takes on Lucrezia Borgia at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Faust at both Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the Royal Opera House in London. Noteworthy debuts also await, including, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in
February 2025, Don Carlo at the Bayerische Staatsoper in April 2025, and Il Masnadieri in July 2025.
