Omer Meir Wellber conducts symphonic concert in Palermo (March 2019)

On 9 March, Omer Meir Wellber will conduct a symphonic concert with the Orchestra del Teatro Massimo in Palermo. On the program will be works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Prokofiev. Soloists are pianist Daniel Ciobanu as well as mezzo soprano Ekaterina Seergeva.

Omer Meir Wellber conducts Tannhäuser at Semperoper Dresden (February 2019)

Omer Meir Wellber conducts the revival performances of Wagner’s Tannhäuser on Sunday, 17 February at the Semperoper Dresden. Further performances take place on 2 and 10 March 2019.

Those will be Omer Meir Wellber’s first opera performances, since he became Principal Guest Conductor at the Semperoper in September 2018.

BBC Radio 3 broadcasts concert with Omer Meir Wellber (December 2018)

On 18 December, you can listen on air to Omer Meir Wellber’s first concert with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra from Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, which took place on 6 October 2018. The concert will be aired on BBC Radio 3 at 14.00 (GMT). You can listen here to the livestream of the radio channel online.

In July 2019, Omer Meir Wellber will be Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Omer Meir Wellber in Stockholm (December 2018)

Omer Meir Wellber is currently conducting the Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester in the Berwaldhallen in Stockholm. At the concerts on 13 and 15 December, pianist Jonathan Biss plays two piano concertos by Beethoven and Sally Beamish. Furthermore, Strauss’ “Ein Heldenleben” is presented.

Omer Meir Wellber’s debut at the MET (October 2018)

Omer Meir Wellber has recently arrived in New York, where he will conduct performances of Bizet’s Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera from 30 October.  With those he will give his debut at the MET.

Omer Meir Wellber appointed new Chief Conductor of BBC Philharmonic (October 2018)

Israeli conductor Omer Meir Wellber has been appointed as the BBC Philharmonic’s new Chief Conductor. He takes up the post in September 2019 and his initial contract is for four years.

Omer Meir Wellber, 36, will conduct the orchestra in its concert series at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester as well as at the BBC Proms in London and on international tours. All the concerts are recorded or broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. He will also give concerts around the North and beyond including in Leeds, Stoke on Trent and Nottingham.

His first appearance at the helm of the BBC Philharmonic will also be his debut at the 2019 season of the BBC Proms in London, and his first Manchester concert as Chief Conductor will be in September 2019.

Commenting on the appointment Simon Webb, General Manager of the BBC Philharmonic says: “Having seen Omer conducting a number of orchestras over the last year I have been fortunate to have experienced his brilliance first hand in a wide range of repertoire. His immediate connection with the BBC Philharmonic was evident in his first concert and we are now delighted to have secured one of the most sought after young conductors of his generation.”

Omer Meir Wellber adds: “I first worked with the BBC Philharmonic in March and knew straight away that they were a very special group of people and exceptional musicians. Manchester and the whole region is an incredibly rich area culturally, so I can hardly wait to start planning seasons to come.”

The BBC Philharmonic is one of the UK’s finest orchestras. It performs its main concert series at the prestigious Bridgewater Hall in Manchester as well as giving live, free concerts in its own international standard recording studio at MediaCityUK in Salford as part of the BBC’s Northern headquarters.
