Midori Joins the Curtis Institute of Music Violin Faculty with the Beginning of this school year (September 2018)

With the beginning of the fall semester on 4 September 2018, Midori will officially join the Violin Faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She joins a storied violin lineage and robust community engagement program at Curtis.

During the 2017–18 academic year, Midori already visited Curtis a number of times to give masterclasses, attend student-centered activities, and work with students participating in the school’s community engagement programs and Artist-Citizen courses.

Midori comes to Curtis after 14 years on the faculty of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she was a distinguished professor, a department chair for eight years, and holder of the esteemed Jascha Heifetz Chair in Violin. She will assume a role as a visiting artist at USC beginning with this semester.

Midori at The Bernstein Centennial Celebration at Tanglewood (August 2018)

On 25 August 2018, Midori will perform a movement of Leonard Bernstein’s Serenade after Plato’s Symposium at the Bernstein Centenary Celebration at Tanglewood together with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach. Already as a 14 year old she had performed this work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the composer himself at Tanglewood.

Midori at the Parnü Music Festival (August 2018)

On 11 August, Midori will perform Sibelius’ Violin Concert at the Pärnu Music Festival. Paavo Järvi will be conducting the Estonian Festival Orchestra.

Midori at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (July 2018)

On 13 and 14 July, Midori will be guest at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. Together with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach, she will perform Schumann’s Violin Concerto in Hamburg and Kiel.

Midori – Duo Tour with Özgür Aydin (June 2018)

At the beginning of July, Midori and pianist Özgür Aydin will be playing recitals in Germany and Warsaw: At the Kultursommer Nordhessen, in Detmold, at the Brandenburgische Sommerkonzerten and at Morningside Music Bridge, they will perform works by Mozart, Franck, Schubert and Respighi.

Midori visit refugee’s home in Berlin (May 2018)

On the occasion of her concert with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin  on 13 May 2018 in the Berlin Philharmonie, UN Messenger of Peace and violinist Midori visited a home for female refugees and their children in Berlin (“Nachbarschaftsheims Schöneberg e.V.”). Together with the members of the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchesters Berlin Dávid Adorján (Solocellist) und Eve Wickert (Viola), they played music for around 30 women and children of the home.

Midori plays with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (May 2018)

On 13 May 2018, Midori plays with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, with Constantinos Carydis conducting. In celebration of Bernstein’s anniversary they perform his Serenade after Plato’s Symposion, which Midori already played at her debut at Tanglewood as a 14 year old under the baton of the composer himself.
