Feb 10, 2012 Christine Schornsheim | Bach's "The Well-Tempered Clavier" recorded on 1624 harpsichord (February 2012)

„It is the most beautiful instrument I know, a nightingale: Modest from the outside, but its sound is enchanting. It is earthy, warm and singing, with a clear response – everything that is essential for Bach’s polyphonic music.“
Christine Schornsheim about the 1624 Ruckers harpsichord in Colmar

In January, harpsichordist and expert for historic keyboard instruments Christine Schornsheim published her new CD with Bach’s complete Well-Tempered Clavier on Capriccio. It was recorded on the Ruckers harpsichord in Colmar, Musée Unterlinden. Only a few instruments of the famous Antwerp harpsichord maker from the 17th century are preserved and fully playable. A making-of video is available HERE.

This recording project has been a long cherished wish of Christine Schornsheim, and it was her intention to show that this is not “stiff” music but a rather colorful, diverse, and tuneful cosmos of Bach’s music.

For Capriccio, she already recorded Haydn’s complete works for keyboard, as well as Boëly’s early keyboard music.
